Our book of the week is... "The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler Words can NOT sufficiently or efficiently describe just how much or why we love this book! Words can not describe how many times we've read this book. It is the most cleverly written "children's book" ever. "Children's book" being in quotes because this is a book that the adults seem to enjoy more, and probably better comprehend the level of cleverness the main character exudes So this clever little mouse decides to "take a stroll through the deep dark wood." We didn't know he was clever in the beginning. We just assumed he was an innocent, timid mouse, much like the typical depictions of a scary mouse. Along his stroll, he encounters several would-be predators. He's SO clever that he attempts to outsmart them simply by using his vivid imagination. Does he outsmart his pray? And, is it all just his imagination?
Be sure to pick up a copy of this wonderfully illustrated, beautifully written, rhyme-lined story at your local library or purchase for your collection. You will be SO glad you did.
