![]() Our book of the week is... "My Brother Charlie" by Holly Robinson Peete and Ryan Elizabeth Peete illustrated by Shane Evans Our family fell in love with this book at first sight! It is a heartfelt, heartwarming story about a young boy with autism. The synopsis on Amazon.com is so well written that we opted to post their words here: "Charlie has autism. His brain works in a special way. It's harder for him to make friends. Or show his true feelings. Or stay safe." But as his big sister tells us, for everything that Charlie can't do well, there are plenty more things that he's good at. He knows the names of all the American presidents. He knows stuff about airplanes. And he can even play the piano better than anyone he knows. The awareness that this book brings about autism is so wonderfully presented! This was a "great choice for introducing the subject of autism to young children or for starting discussion in any family dealing with disability." Be sure to borrow it from your local library, or purchase one for your ever-growing home library collection. Enjoy! :)
Below are wonderful books we recommend to add to your home library collection. Comments are closed.
