“MOM” - noun (1) a female parent (2) a woman in relation to her child or children - verb (1) bring up (a child) with care and affection (2) give origin or rise to “LIFE” - noun (1) the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death We all know that the average Mom IS MORE than any words, paragraphs, books, libraries can ever sufficiently describe, okay? We know that Mom granted the ultimate sacrifice - HER LIFE - the moment she chose to BE a mom, and inevitably, she continues to sacrifice “A LOT,” continuously… until the end of time… And, if you’re a homeschool Mom (or Grandmom), I can almost guarantee that it has been waaaay past due for YOU, yes Y-O-U, “Mommy, Mommie, Mom, Ma, Mama, Momma, Mother” to GET A LIFE!!! I mean this with total niceness, tenderness, honesty, and the sweetest sincerity. Let me explain… If you, Mother Dear, are NOT actively, consciously, deliberately dedicating merely 15 minutes (or more) of YOUR time TO YOURSELF DAILY, then you’re doing yourself the ultimate, total disservice! YOUR life is completely everyone else’s except yours. Period. So, Mom, GET A LIFE! Let me elaborate. Since you began this lifelong trek of motherhood, and if you’ve added in the daunting responsibility of homeschooling your children as well, then unless you are actively, consciously, deliberately dedicating a portion of your 24 hours per day SOLELY to yourself, then you are actively giving away your entire life and your entire self, every - single - day. Unnecessary! YOU DESERVE MORE THAN THAT! You DESERVE to “selfishly” RESERVE, PRESERVE, CONSERVE at least a PORTION of WHO YOU WERE AND WHO YOU S-T-I-L-L ARE TO YOURSELF, every single day! I’ll explain further. I am, was, and will always be an artist in every sense of the word. Sketcher, painter, actor, singer, writer, photographer, scrapbooker, decorator, organizer, calligrapher, graphic designer, arts & crafter, art teacher, et cetera et cetera. But, I found that once I began my journey of motherhood coupled with homeschool educator, I was “allowing” my dreams and desires to slip away, unnoticed… First, my passions were put on the “back burner.” Then one day I realized that the back burner was a back burner on the OLD STOVE that had long since been removed and replaced by a newer, more modern stove, and the stove with my back-burner dreams was…missing, and…somewhere else! I realized I had completely forgotten about or silenced my desires, all for the sake of…….unconsciously, naturally giving MY ENTIRE ALL to “the cause!” No, Ma’am. No more. My first AHA moment arrived early one beautiful sunny morning. The aha: if I don’t relocate, collect, and return MY passions, MY dreams, MY desires to MY “stove” on the “front, active burner,” my lil’ wants and wishes will remain in oblivion until the end of time, or until my child moved out, or until my husband’s job finally “gave” him more assistance, or until his hours became consistent, or until he was home in time for me to take my evening classes, or until we moved in a bigger home, or until we saved enough money to move away, or until… and until… and endless untils!!!!! GET A LIFE, DEIDRA!!!! That translates into, “You, Deidra, get YOUR LIFE (back) YOURSELF!!!” NO ONE IS GOING TO DO THIS FOR YOU!!! I asked myself, “was it ever really, truly ANYONE ELSE’S ‘responsibility / job’ to ‘give’ me what only I can truly KNOW that I want or need?” The short answer? No. SO, if you find yourself dedicating each and every waking hour to SOMEONE or SOMETHING ELSE, every single day, STOPPIT!!! If you’re not “taking” 15 minutes for/to yourself every single morning before the world awakens, or mid day when the kids are supposedly napping, or just before you close your eyes at night, then you are giving your entire life away, still… I strongly encourage you to return to the essence of YOU that was, is, and will always BE YOU, whether you have children, are married, homeschool, traditional school, work, OR NOT! I strongly encourage you to begin TODAY to dedicate at LEAST 15 minutes of your day TO YOU, FOR YOU, and BY YOU! RECLAIM YOURSELF, your time, your love, YOUR YOU! If you don’t know or have a passion yet, and/or aren’t sure where to begin on reclaiming YOUR YOU, start with a few of these ideas:
There is an inner presence, a true, authentically YOU within you that should NEVER be silenced, shunned, or seated. There are 1,440 minutes in each day, and if you give yourself merely 15 minutes per day, this will ensure that your light continues to burn while you donate and dedicate the other 1,425 minutes to the rest of the world.
Do you KNOW you deserve this?!!! KNOW that YOU ARE WORTHY, YOU MATTER, YOU ARE SPECIAL, and YOU must reclaim YOUR YOU! We are all meant to express ourselves in some way, and that includes YOU! Thanks for reading! I hope you were inspired and encouraged in some way.
