Save Your Hearing Day

It seems that sometimes we take the things we've been given for granted - health, strength, even loved ones. Today is "Save Your Hearing Day," a day set aside to be consciously aware of the ways we can protect our hearing and minimize hearing loss, such as long term exposure to high or loud decibel noises. You can honor this day by FEELING the vibrations that are all around you. What does music "feel" like to you? Illustrate your musical feelings & expressions on paper. Enjoy!

Water a Flower Day

How often our plants are near, gracing us with their purposeful presence, yet we still forget to return the love by watering them regularly? Today is a great day to make time to water our precious green and flowering friends immediately. Maybe set a weekly digital reminder to never neglect them again. While you're in the giving mood, try drawing a picture of your favorite flower or plant. Enjoy! :)

Learn About Composting Day

"Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed in a process called composting" and it is very rich in nutrients. Today would be a great day to learn how to make your own. Anyone can do it, and it could save you lots of money in the long run. Should you engage in this possibly new venture, let us know what you like (or dislike) about composting. Enjoy!

MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day
(or Last Monday in May)

Always the last Monday in the month of May, Memorial Day is a special day that we take time to honor the men and women who give their lives for the protection of our freedom and country. It is also to remember loved ones that we've lost along the way. Be blessed.

SUNSCREEN DAY

Sunscreen Day

Today is a great day to spread the awareness and understanding of the harm that UV sun rays can cause to our skin. It is important to protect ourselves using sunscreen, even on cloudy or overcast days. As the ozone layer above our planet continues to deplete, stronger UV rays make their way through to us. No need to avoid the sunshine though. This is all the more reason to get out there TODAY and enjoy the sun, just in time for summer break. Happy surfing! :)

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY

International Jazz Day

Always the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, International Jazz Day is the day to celebrate jazz music, its history, and its musicians. What better way to celebrate the genre of music that was born in New Orleans, Louisiana than by simply listening to (or playing) various jazz musicians and songs. Sit back, relax, indulge, and enjoy! :)

NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY

5/25/2018

National Tap Dance Day

On May 25th back in 1878, this day was created in honor of legendary tap dancer, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. A nice way to celebrate today would be to, well, tap dance! But, if you're not savvy in a pair of tap dancing shoes, you could always just tap your feet to the rhythm of your favorite beat. Or when you turn on your "tap" water, listen to the tapping of the water into the sink, and enjoy! :)

NATIONAL ESCARGOT DAY

5/24/2018

National Escargot Day

Escargot? As in SNAILS!? Yes, today is National Escargot Day. It is suggested to celebrate the day by eating a plate of this delicacy. HOWEVER, if you're unable to stomach the mere THOUGHT of eating such "delectable" creatures, try celebrating the day by drawing or sketching an animated snail and giving him a cool name like "Slipper" or "Margot." Enjoy! :)

LUCKY PENNY DAY

Lucky Penny Day

Remember the adage, "find a penny, pick it up; all day long you'll have good luck?" I remember looking for pennies all the time because I believed in magic and luck. Well, you don't have to find a penny for good luck! Just BELIEVE that you'll be lucky, and you'll succeed, right? While your luck improves, try
this "Lincoln Pennies" science activity in your homeschool today.

BUY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DAY

Buy a Musical Instrument Day

Music is a mood changer, a mood creator. During school time, we enjoy Soundscapes, Classical music, or Easy Listening because they incite calmness. If you've never played or purchased a musical instrument, today could be your lucky day, in celebration of "Buy a Musical Instrument Day." Why wait if you don't have to? Find your inner musician and go for it! Enjoy! :)

PICK STRAWBERRIES DAY

Pick Strawberries Day

Today is a great day to get out there and pick some real strawberries! Afterwards, you could make some delicious strawberry treats together. Say fresh strawberry popsicles, or strawberry muffins, or even strawberry shortcake. Enjoy!

Armed Forces Day

Today, we honor the men & women who protect our nations in the Armed Forces. According to several sources, "the first Armed Forces Day also played an essential part in educating society & expanding public knowledge of the military & the role they play in the community." Let's give thanks to the courageous people that continuously protect & serve our country. Maybe you'd like to draw or color a flag of your favorite state or country. Enjoy ! :)

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB DAY

Boys Club & Girls Club Day

There are many clubs around the world that are geared to improving and often protecting the lives of our children. At "Boys & Girls Club of America," they manage to "help millions of kids and teens develop essential skills, make lasting connections and have fun," and develop "supportive relationships with caring mentors." Today, we'd like to give a shout out to the many facilities that do a wonderful job at providing various outlets for our youth.

International Museum Day

Today's a great day to visit and/or support your local museums. Out-of-towners take more advantage of the beautiful, educational, inviting museums & galleries that our towns provide. Learn at least one thing about one great facility near you. (Click here to discover ways to making learning history unique, engaging, and more fun.)

PAT RACK DAY

Pat Rack Day

Today we celebrate "Pat Rack Day!" It seems that most of us have at least a smidge of "Pat Rack" in us. There's usually something we don't want to get rid of "just in case," and we end up packing too many "just in cases" all over the place.... If you're a pat rack, then today's the day you can celebrate being just as "collectible" as your heart desires. (Maybe tomorrow, we can start officially spring cleaning...).
