METEOR WATCH DAY

6/30/2018

Picture
JUNE 30
Meteor Watch Day

Meteors are collections of dust and ice from space that enter the atmosphere. As meteors enter Earth's atmosphere, they begin to burn, creating "light" as they streak across the sky. Meteors occur throughout the year, though we often aren't as fortunate enough to actually spot them.

Since summer serves us extended evening hours, tonight would be a great night to prepare to enjoy a night out watching the stars, and watching and hoping for the sight of meteors passing by. Will you be lucky enough to spot one!? Enjoy the night.

NATIONAL HUG HOLIDAY DAY

6/29/2018

JUNE 29
National Hug Holiday Day

Here's a tidbit to help start your day. According to NationalToday.com, "
Hugging is a simple way to express many different types of affection, from friendly, to intimate, to familial. It’s an action largely limited to primates — while we can find instances of other animals in positions that resemble hugging, there aren’t any other species that do it so frequently, and for so many reasons — and so, in many ways, hugging sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom." Interesting!!!

This day is dedicated to ones in need of hugs, love, attention. We believe EVERYONE could use a hug every once in a while. Be mindful of senior citizens, elderly, homeless, hospitalized. Extend a warm hug, handshake, cheer. Enjoy!

PAUL BUNYAN DAY

6/28/2018

Picture
JUNE 28
Paul Bunyan Day

Paul Bunyan was a famous folklore, mythological, lumberjack giant. So to celebrate Paul Bunyan Day, we suggest you make today B-I-G in various fun, clever, creative ways, just for the sake of going B-I-G. Eat a BIG breakfast or a BIG burger for lunch, like a Whopper at Burger King or BIG Mac at McDonald's. Take BIG steps when walking and if anyone asks, encourage them to celebrate with you. Watch The Incredible Hulk or The Avengers. Draw a mural with the kids, ride a "BIG wheel." Have fun, and GO BIG!

NATIONAL SUNGLASSES DAY

6/27/2018

JUNE 27
National Sunglasses Day

Did you know that proper sunglasses actually protect your eyes from harmful UV rays? Today is an annual commemorative day (June 27th) created to help spread the understanding of the importance of wearing proper sunglasses. Today, sport your suavest pair, take photos (#selfies). NationalSunglassesDay.com also encourages consumers to practice wearing sunglasses everyday so that you'll already create this new necessary habit by next June 27th. Enjoy! :)

FORGIVENESS DAY

6/26/2018

Picture
JUNE 26
Forgiveness Day

Today is the day to forgive others and be forgiven. For anyone that has wronged you, hurt you, disappointed you, just forgive them, free and clear. Know that you’ve probably wronged someone else, accidentally or otherwise. Lighten your heart today. Forgive. Be forgiven. Release.

NATIONAL CATFISH DAY

6/25/2018

Picture
JUNE 25
National Catfish Day

National Catfish Day is the day to either go cat-fishing or enjoy eating catfish just the way you like it! What if you're one who's just not into fishing, or don't live near fishing waters? Then,  try fun, indoor fishing activities, which you'll find ideas here. Or, try playing the fun card game of "Go Fish," or eat "Goldfish" crackers, or fish tacos (pictured). You could even gather the kids around and make up "fish tales" of your own, shared by candle light or a soft warm lamp (like an indoor campfire). Be creative, and enjoy!

SWIM A LAP DAY

6/24/2018

JUNE 24
Swim A Lap Day

With summer beaming down on the Northern Hemisphere these days, we could all use time in, around, upon, or just near water. If you have access to a pool, today is a great day to grab your swimwear, get the kiddies, gather a few pool necessities, head to the pool, and enjoy some well-intended exercise by swimming at least one lap! Or, sit poolside and draw or paint a beautiful pool scene. Enjoy! :)

NATIONAL PINK DAY

6/23/2018

Picture
JUNE 23
National Pink Day

National Pink Day is not just a day for girls, but also a day for guys to get in touch with their “softer side.” Balance. Yin and yang. The color pink generally represents compassion, caring and love. To celebrate this day, you can wear something pink (pink socks if you don't want everyone to see), accent with pink jewelry, make pink icing cupcakes, pick pink flowers, gift pink bouquets, give a gift wrapped in pink paper, paint pink roses, and more. Bask the world in pink!

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE ECLAIR DAY

6/22/2018

Picture
JUNE 22
National Chocolate Eclair Day

Today is a sweet, high calorie, high fructose, very sugary day! Not the best day to diet. Eclairs are light, crisp, sweet pastries filled with cream. Though some people start their day with such pastries, many people eat them as desserts during any meal or even as a snack. If you're not wanting to consume an eclair today, but would still like to celebrate, try drawing it with oil or chalk pastels on textured paper, as one of our favorite artists, Wayne Thiebaud, would do. Or, try making these easy Chocolate Acorns instead. Enjoy!

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

6/21/2018

Picture
JUNE 21 (1)
International Yoga Day

Yoga originated in India over 5,000 years ago! WOW! It is STILL around and continues to reinvent itself and its "powers." Yoga has proven to help one relax - mind, body, spirit. Our minds, bodies, and spirits deserve deliberate calming and relaxation, regularly.

Set aside some time today to pull out a yoga mat and give yoga a shot! Disclaimer: we wouldn't suggest starting off yoga for the first time with a yoga pose like the one beautifully illustrated in this picture, but there are many, much easier, beginner poses that we're sure you can handle. Go for it!

NATIONAL SELFIE DAY

6/21/2018

Picture
JUNE 21 (2)
National Selfie Day

In the age of the cell phones, and in the age of chronic cell phone usage, why is today even needed when selfies are already regularly and readily popular!? Thus today gives us an excuse to go at it completely, and post until our hearts are content. Grab a friend, several friends,  coworkers, or your friendly customer service patron and selfie away. Take it up a notch and try drawing, tracing, or coloring your selfie and post that instead.
Have fun! :)

ICE CREAM SODA DAY

6/20/2018

Picture
JUNE 20
Ice Cream Soda Day

Ice cream and soda don’t quite go together for us, but it’s still a big hit!
It is a cold beverage made of ice cream and a soft drink. Usually when ice cream and root beer are together, it's called a root beer float. Today, enjoy ice cream and a soft drink together, or separate (like us). If you're in the market for making a simple batch of delicious vanilla ice cream, try this recipe & technique. Enjoy!

JUNETEENTH

Junteenth

Did you know that slaves in America had already been emancipated
two and a half years before President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863? The slaves in Galveston, TX didn’t know it either, as literacy of slaves was prohibited. They got word of their freedom on this day, June 19, 1865, two and a half years later. Juneteenth is often celebrated by way of festivals and feasts across the United States. Today’s a great day to celebrate Junteenth by learning more about its American history.

WORLD SAUNTERING DAY

6/19/2018

World Sauntering Day

Each year on June 19th, we celebrate World Sauntering Day. Well, for those who may not be familiar, “saunter is to walk with a leisurely gait; stroll.” As a busy homeschool mom, dad, family, when was the last time you all went on a leisurely, calm stroll? When did you simply walk with nothing immediately required immediately? Don’t you deserve such? Make time today to deliberately and purposely saunter. Enjoy! :)

GO FISHING DAY

6/18/2018

JUNE 18
Go Fishing Day

Why not go fishing today!? It’s summer, it's always cooler by the lake, AND you deserve to sit in the boat and enjoy a little rest, leisure, and fishing. Kids can draw their favorite sea creatures or lake scene, maybe play in the water and pretend to fish if fishing today is out of reach. Or, if you’re not the fishing-at-the-lake type anyway, try this all-weather fishing idea with the children that's sure to be a hit!

JUNE 11
National Corn on the Cob Day

Who doesn’t enjoy a golden, juicy, sweet, fresh ear of corn? Maybe those who don’t care for corn in every tooth! We enjoy it, preferably grilled, especially during summertime. Today's the perfect day to grill some delicious sweet corn on the cob, or shave it from the cob and make southern fried skillet cream corn, or snap a fresh ear of corn in half and stovetop boil it for about 10 minutes. YUMMY!!!

Today is Donald Duck’s Birthday! My, how he hasn’t aged a bit! :) Celebrate Donald’s birthday by painting him on a yard block as linked here, or by drawing and coloring Donald and preserving him in a picture frame, as we did here for one of our family pets. Or, try watching one of your favorite Disney episodes featuring Donald Duck himself. You could even visit a lake & feed his duck cousins and friends. Enjoy!
