NATIONAL HOT CHOCOLATE DAY

It’s that time of year when much of the US undergoes wintery conditions. Wintery weather goes hand-in-hand with sweaters, fireplaces, snow boots, scarves, warm hats, and especially a nice, warm, jumbo mug of hot chocolate topped with mini marshmallows, whipped cream and cinnamon, chocolate, or caramel drizzles!!! How about just that today, a cup of tasty hot chocolate whilst relaxing under a cozy blanket next to a blazing fireplace… Enjoy. :)

NATIONAL BUBBLE WRAP APPRECIATION DAY

Most of us are familiar with bubble wrap, but for the unfamiliar, here’s a brief description. “Bubble wrap is a pliable, transparent, plastic material used for packing fragile items. Regularly spaced, protruding air-filled hemispheres provide cushioning for fragile items.” The unspoken fact about bubble wrap is that it is SO MUCH FUN TO POP!!! After it’s served its purpose and safely escorted our fragile items, what does one do with the bubble wrap? Exactly. Pop, pop, pop, non-stop! Enjoy the popping of bubble wrap today!

NATIONAL CROISSANT DAY

A croissant is a delicious, flaky, buttery pastry originating in Austria and is named for its crescent shape. It’s made of a layered yeast-leavened dough which is layered with butter, then rolled and folded several times, rolled into a thin sheet, baked, and thus resulting in a scrumptious, layered, flaky texture. They are quite versatile because depending on the toppings or fillings, they serve as sandwiches, desserts, pastries, appetizers, snacks, and/or main dishes. Celebrate today by partaking in an almond cinnamon croissant or a cheesy stuffed garlic butter "croissandwich." Yummy to my tummy!

NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY

There are several kinds of puzzles to choose from, including Sudoku, crossword, jigsaw, word search, anagrams, even Rubik’s Cube! If not the tangible kind, choose from a plethora virtual puzzles and apps, such as (a few of our favorites) WordScapes, Word Stacks, WordShapes, Word Trip. Stimulate your brain today!

NATIONAL DAISY DAY

JANUARY 28
NATIONAL DAISY DAY

Such a beautiful, calm, calming and gentle, flower, the daisy… with white rays (petals) and a yellow disc (center). Daisies symbolize purity and innocence according to the Celtic legends. They symbolize new beginnings in Norse mythology, and represent chastity and transformation in Roman myths. Understandably so because they just seem to be gentle, graceful blossoms. Celebrate this Dilly Day in a soft and gentle way. Enjoy!

Some artists are so creative that they participate in Lego competitions, Lego conventions, and Lego leagues. Bravo! Explore and celebrate today!

NATIONAL KAZOO DAY

NATIONAL KAZOO DAY

What is a kazoo? Per Wikipedia, it is “an American musical instrument that adds a ‘buzzing' timbral quality to a player's voice when the player vocalizes into it.” Depending on who you ask, it’s either a uniquely amazing or highly aggravating instrument. Even though the kazoo is a member of the “wind instruments,” it takes a bit of skill to “play” because it can not be played by simply blowing into it. The user MUST hum into it in order to get “sound” from it. Buzz away today in your kazoo, and remember to have fun!

WHAT BETTER DESSERT IS THERE THAN CHOCOLATE CAKE?!!! Today is all about the (over) indulgence of the greatest dessert discovery since the invention of the oven, chocolate cake! So…. indulge, IMMEDIATELY! :) Are you going for store bought, a slice from your favorite local bakery, prepackaged, home-baked using the powdered boxed cake, or traditionally homemade with melted chocolate and cocoa powder? Yum yum! #instagood

NATIONAL GREEN JUICE DAY

NATIONAL GREEN JUICE DAY

Research continues to support the idea that dark green vegetables are the healthiest, most bone protecting, inflammatory disease preventing, high content of antioxidant foods we could/should provide and supply to our bodies. They may even be one of the best cancer-preventing foods. Thus, today is the perfect day to celebrate their benefits by indulging in a tall glass of green juice, including (but not limited to) pureed cucumber, apple, spinach, kale, lime, celery, and/or whatever spices or seasonings you prefer. Eat healthy, indulge, and enjoy!

OPPOSITE DAY

OPPOSITE DAY

Okay, just for today, let’s switch things around. Our brains often prevent us from enjoying simple pleasures of life because we get stuck in routine, tradition, the way things are (as if “the way things have always been” was cast in stone by our forefathers and ancestors and forever remains unchangeable). Today, rock the boat, rattle the brain, and eat dinner for breakfast, eat dessert before a meal, speak to the neighbor you generally ignore, forgive a nemesis (privately, secretly if necessary), cruise in the slow lane instead of beeline first to the speed lane, agree to lose in something instead of dare to win, drink water instead of a beverage, try a new food, and/or create at least ONE “opposite” thing to do today! What’s the worse that can happen? Really!?

NATIONAL COMPLIMENT DAY

NATIONAL COMPLIMENT DAY

World famous comedian, actor, writer, producer, Billy Crystal, used to say back in the 80’s, “you look MARVELOUS!” Simple compliment. Compliments hold weights and gems of gratitude, appreciation, acknowledgement, even honor and praise, if only we care to extend them to others just as much as we wish to receive. Give someone a compliment today, deliberately, purposefully, freely, wanting nothing in return.

According to Wikipedia, “The Macintosh (mainly Mac since 1998) is a family of personal computers designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple, Inc. since January 1984. The original Macintosh is the first successful mass-market personal computer to have featured a graphical user interface, built-in screen, and mouse.” PHENOMENAL invention and provision!!! Where would the world (of artists, at least) be without The Macintosh Computer?! Celebrate this day in an artistic, fun, creative way!

Celebrate your handwriting with intention, purpose, and appreciation and assist in the maintenance of this “skill” during the era of digital everything else. Enjoy!

Just as their slogan states, Louisiana Hot Sauce really is “the perfect hot sauce,” if you ask us! Hot sauce is a seasoning, condiment, or salsa made from chili peppers and other specialty ingredients. There are several pre-made, purchasable brands, but nowadays (especially with the arrival of Pinterest), many choose to whip up their own batch using secret family recipes and a variety of ingredients. However you choose to indulge today, enjoy a splash of hot sauce on your hot wings, chili, or just a dash in your homemade thousand island salad dressing!

CELEBRATION OF LIFE DAY

Does the word “life” simply mean “the existence of an individual human being or animal” to you? Or, does “life” mean so much more than that? Do we humans truly, consciously, deliberately celebrate the precious breath of life we have been given? If so, how often? Do our actions, choices, preferences, prejudices, beliefs, religions, political choices, dietary intake, behaviors, and actions even slightly reflect our “celebration” of life? Or contradict? Almost everything we are, have, believe, or choose can be changed, rearranged, altered, reduced, or removed, IF/WHEN we are truly ready to celebrate this precious gift of life! Celebrate your life in an honorable, equitable, loving way TODAY!

NATIONAL HUGGING DAY

Hugging is the act of holding someone in one’s arms tightly, usually to express affection. Hugging is a warm, endearing gesture that can convey and imply many unspoken human emotions. It can silently reveal “I’m sorry,” or “thank you,” or even “I love you.” And, hugs are FREE! Engage in the celebration of National Hugging Day today! Extend a gentle, sincere hug to someone deserving or least expecting today, and/or try a group hug, too.

NATIONAL PENGUIN DAY

National Bird Day is celebrated on January 5th. Today, we celebrate penguins, the flightless, aquatic birds. Even though they live much of their lives in water, they are classified as birds because they have feathers, lay eggs, and are warm-blooded. How to celebrate National Penguin Dilly Day, you say? Draw or paint a picture of penguins, wear black and white, eat black and white foods (Oreos, chocolate or powdered donuts, black eyed peas), or learn more about the many species and how we can protect them. Enjoy!

NATIONAL DJ DAY

2/21/2021

JANUARY 20
NATIONAL DJ DAY

Even though we seem to have become our own, individual DJ’s since the dawn of digital music streaming, iPods, iTunes, and even cds, DJ’s are still around, and manage to continue to keep great music in rotation at live events, satellite radio, etc. DJ is short for “disc jockey,” and he or she plays recorded music for an audience. I remember attempting to call in to my favorite radio stations just to speak to the DJ, or the master organizer behind the constant stream of all my favorite hits. Thank you, DJ’s around the world! We acknowledge and appreciate you for all your time, service, and skills! Give a shout out to a DJ today!

Absolutely LOVE popcorn and its hypnotic fragrance luring me in as it pops, the lightly salted flavoring sprinkled abroad, the sweet buttered drizzle all about the giant bowl of tasty goodness… Yummmmmm! Popcorn is a phenomenal snack (for us). How will you indulge in today’s Dilly Day? Dive into a giant bowl of popcorn while watching your favorite shows? Microwave or stove top popped? Lightly salted or caramel drizzled? Movie theater buttered or cheese blend? Enjoy!

NATIONAL THESAURUS DAY

NATIONAL THESAURUS DAY

What is better than learning a new word a day? Learning a synonym of the new word!! What’s even better than that? Actually incorporating the new learned words and synonyms into your daily jargon! Talk about fun, Fun, FUN! Absolutely. Thesaurus is the dictionary’s other half, listing words in groups of synonyms and related concepts. I used to carry a mini-thesaurus prior to the new age, easy access, weightlessness of digital-age apps and websites. Learn a new word, preferably the new word and a synonym, and use them today, tomorrow, and beyond…

CUSTOMER SERVICE DAY

CUSTOMER SERVICE DAY

The definition and expectations of “customer service” vary from person to person. Per Google, customer service is “the assistance and advice provided by a company to those people who buy or use its products or services.” In America, we seem to expect a high level of professionalism, consideration, quality, perks, even friendliness of/by the employees of the establishments we support. After all, without CUSTOMERS, what need would there be to serve/service? Chick-fil-A displays the epitome of splendid, consistent, great, quality customer service! THANK YOU! And, for this day, show your favorite customer service representatives appreciation for their jobs well done!
