FEBRUARY 27 (2 of 2) INTERNATIONAL POLAR BEAR DAY Let’s take a moment today to shout “HELLO UP THERE” to all the beautiful, white, well camouflaged, largest living land carnivores… the polar bear! They live in the Arctic on ice-covered waters. They are almost exclusively carnivorous (meat eaters), relying mostly on ringed seals or bearded seals for food and survival. Adult male polar bears weigh more than 800 pounds and are over 8 feet long (from nose to tail), and their incredibly strong sense of smell enables them to sniff out “lunch” up to 20 miles away! Beneath their beautifully white fur coats (which allows them to blend in with the snow so much so that they can pass as snow drifts) lies jet black skin. Who knew! Now you do. :)
