"LLAMA LLAMA RED PAJAMA" (series)

6/14/2018

ArtEase! Book of the Week - Llama Llama Red Pajama
Our book of the week is...

"Llama Llama Red Pajama"

by Anna Dewdney (author and illustrator)

Anna Dewdney’s “Llama Llama” series is one of our absolute most favorite children’s book series EVER! Dewdney proved to be superbly talented in both writing, rhyming, and illustrating each and every one of the Llama Llama books. If you have not experienced Llama Llama, begin IMMEDIATELY and you’re guaranteed to be hooked. Here's why WE LOVE LLAMA LLAMA!!!

Each Llama Llama book involves a loving, beautiful relationship between little Llama and his precious Mama. We forget that the characters aren’t actually human because of the splendid way Dewdney personifies every character in each book. The stories are so well appreciated because Dewdney used every day activities that moms and children share and turned them into alluring, rhythmic, riveting adventures. We (parents) have been in many of the situations and maybe even handled them similarly to the way "Mama Llama" handles them; but to see these common events recreated and printed on the pages of an endless storybook collection is genius! Again, everything about the "Llama Llama" books series was creatively planned, wonderfully written, thoughtfully organized, brilliantly illustrated, and everything in between. Just...BRILLIANT!

“Llama Llama Red Pajama” was the first book she wrote and illustrated. It also happened to be the first Llama book we collected. There are so many available now that we haven’t even discovered. We THINK our favorite is “Llama Llama Home with Mama.” But then again, it’s probably “Llama Llama Mad at Mama,” followed by “Llama Llama Holiday Drama.” There’s even an animated tv series of the books, too!

I had the honor and pleasure of actually receiving a response from Ms. Dewdney a few years ago when I wrote her to thank her for sharing such wonderment with us! She, sadly, has since passed away… but her lovely legacy will live forever. Thank you, Anna Dewdney, again and again.

And again, if you have not yet had the pleasure of indulging into the world of Llama Llama, please do so IMMEDIATELY! Start with your local library. When you find that you’d like to add them to your collection as we continue to do in our homeschool library, check out the links below. “Llama Llama” is simply the cutest most adorably buddy that your kids will enjoy hanging out with. Enjoy! :)
