"No, David!"

Our book of the week is...

"No, David!"

by David Shannon (author & illustrator)

Although this is a previously, semi-featured book from the Father’s Day Melange children’s book collection, “No, David!” by David Shannon deserves its own highlighted “Book of the Week” spot. So, here’s to you, Mr. David Shannon for sharing your wonderfully brilliant, creative, relatable, hilariously understandable, fun children’s book. And here are a few of the many reasons we LOVE this book.

I think guys, especially Dad’s enjoy this book because they can remember either BEING “David” or being closely related to one. From a parental perspective, “No, David!” takes on a new, heartfelt, understandable appreciation for all that parents must…tolerate the actions of their kiddos.

You see, “No, David!” is about an active, maybe mischievous, curious, inquisitive, testy little boy who relentlessly forces his mom to redundantly recite the phrase, “No, David!” He’s just “being a boy,” I suppose. From his perspective, he’s simply having fun and embracing the entire world around him, completely!

Here’s why we love this book so much:
  • Author/Illustrator David Shannon illustrated events that we can all relate to, having seen or experienced first-hand
  • The images are quite uniquely David Shannon’s
  • The pictures are great complements for the “feel” of the story
  • The drawings are detailed, all-inclusive, colorful, and in an artistic style that complements David’s behavior
  • The book is titled, “No, David!” as to indicate it’s written from a “first person” point of view, and we appreciate that!
  • The book is direct, straight-to-the-point, minimal pages yet its purpose is definitively clear
  • The words on each page are…strategically, brilliantly concise!
  • The ending is simply wonderful and heartfelt

Great job, Mr. Shannon! If you’ve not yet experienced “No, David!” firsthand, then you’re missing out on a fun, re-readable, engaging, wonderful story book for children of all ages. And if you’re wondering what the ending is, wellllll, you’ll just have to find out for yourself. :)

Get your copy today, and add to your wonderful home library! Share with us in the comments below your favorite parts and pictures in the book. Enjoy! :)

Every kid love's to read children's or the parent read them the story before bedtime. For me it helps encourage the child's mind to be artistic, active and encourage the bond between child and parent relationship. My favorite book is Winnie the pooh. I love the friendship Pooh has with Tiger, Piglet, Kanga and Roo, Eeyore and Christopher Robin-the only human friend they have. Now I am passing it to my children and read it to them before they sleep.

Absolutely! I remember reading and being read to before bedtime during childhood, and we passed on the "tradition" to our son. I think it encourages creative dreaming, too. Thanks for your comment!
