Our book of the week is...
"I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track"
by Joshua Prince, illustrated by Macky Pamintaun
We stumbled upon this wonderful book by accident years ago because we read a book entitled "Bedtime at the Swamp" written by Kristyn Crow and illustrated by Macky Pamintaun. That book was wonderfully written, and excellently illustrated. We decided to see if the artist had illustrated any other books, and here's where this week's selection comes into view.
We rented "I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track" from our local library and were instantly in love with the writing, the rhythm, the story, and of course the illustrations! The author, Joshua Prince, clearly has a rhythmic mind because he granted careful attention to both the rhythm of the action and build-up of the story, as well as the rhyming of each line. Great job by the author AND the artist!
"I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track" is about a sweet little ant that stumbles upon a trail of trouble, unbeknownst to him. Lucky for him, the caring switchman sees all the would-be dangers and offers to step in to assist. The children (and adults) will absolutely LOVE this story!
Both author and artist created another book entitled "I Saw an Ant in the Parking Lot," and it is just as captivating and fun.
Be sure to check this book out at your local library, or buy your own copy to add to your ever-growing home library collection. Enjoy! :)
